Best place to look up cruises

Main Post:

Hello everybody I was curious what’s the best way to look up cruises. Do you go to the websites directly or use a website like trip advisor. When is the best time to buy a cruise? I’m looking at taking my family of four on a Cruise late August before they start school. Not sure where to begin and whom to avoid I’ve heard bad things about carnival cruises. Thanks for any help and advice in advance.

Top Comment: Vacationstogo.com. you just need to sign up with your email address and they don't flood your inbox with a lot of spam. They have the best search that I've seen. I love their 90 day ticker. I have never actually used them for booking. Just searches.

Best cruise line to go one? First timer

Main Post:

So I'm planning a cruise ship in a year or so and I've been doing much research. I have been receiving plenty of feedback insisting carnival attacks bad company, and rude people. What is a good cruise line to use? I want my first time to be enjoyable and not worry about angry rude people around me or my family.

Top Comment: Find an itinerary you like. Don’t worry about the brand. All have positive and negative aspects.

Adults only cruises, worth it?

Main Post:

Trying to plan a cruise with my wife, been working too much and we need a break. I really want to go on something childfree, but am concerned that adults only cruises are going to be primarily couples looking to swing. My work has discounts available so I definitely want to take advantage of that as well, just really looking for people with firsthand experience with adults only cruises.

Top Comment: LOL. Definitely not primarily couples wanting to swing. Just avoid anybody with an upside down pineapple pin, sticker, or piece of clothing. 🍍 Viking and Virgin will be your two best bets for adults only cruises. That’s exactly what they are; adults only. Not a kid in sight. Virgin’s atmosphere tends to be a bit more risqué, and Viking is more traditional. There are other cruise lines that are not 100% kid free, but that are more adult oriented. What that means is that you may still see kids onboard, but in much smaller numbers and usually much better behaved than on family friendly mass market lines where it’s not uncommon to see hordes of kids roaming the ship and commandeering hot tubs and pools. They’ll have a kids club, but that’s about it for kid specific venues. Look for Celebrity, Princess and Holland America. All excellent choices for a more adult oriented experience, and a bit more premium than the other mass market cruise lines.

First cruise ever, I’m incredibly overwhelmed w everything.

Main Post:

Im just going to ramble about some of the things I’m finding to be very stressful for me rn and hope that if you’re reading this and have insight on any of the following, maybe ease my nerves or pint me in the right direction.

Details: Port in Miami FL, 5 day Caribbean cruise going to Labadee, Haiti & Falmouth Jamaica, on Royal Caribbean. Just myself and husband.

It’s already adding up so quick. Cruise, the flights to and from Florida, deluxe drink packages. Just wow $$$$.

Anyway. Documentation. Do we need passports? I’ve read some posts saying yes and others saying no and I’m having trouble finding the answer on the cruise website.

Excursions. if I do not book an excursion would we still have a good time? I’m not against it, I’m simply wondering if it’s something I should do in order for us to enjoy our time at the ports.

And then if I do book excursions.. can you get on and off the ship if you need to? So one excursion is a historic landmark hike. Obviously I’d need tennis shoes, bug spray, water, etc. so if we do that, and then want to change into beachwear or something else can we go back and change or do we need to take a backpack w other clothes inside?

And am I the only one worried I’ll straight up get LOST and miss the ship and be stranded in another country? Real fear 😆 Is there something you can tell me that might help me feel more grounded, like I won’t get left behind?

I think this is it for the moment. Thank you in advance

Top Comment: Skip the drink packages. They are a lot of money, and really not worth it unless you drink A LOT! If you go on an excursion, take stuff with you for beachwear. It's easier than trying to go back and forth to the ship. Sometimes, you can find excursions on your own that are much less expensive than the ship sponsored ones. Do a little research on each port before you go on the cruise. Personally, I have a lot of fun exploring on my own. Just stay alert and be aware of your time and direction to/from the ship. Many times, the ship will host an info meeting about the next day's port. Go to that and get the important info for getting around the town, and also the places to shop. Don't live in fear! Be smart, use your head, and a map to get around. The ship will have brochures and maps for each port. Take plenty of cash, in small bills, for shopping, negotiating, and perhaps a taxi. YOU WON'T BE LEFT BEHIND! (Unless you do something really stupid.) Enjoy the cruise! Don't stress. You'll have a blast! Cruises are my favourite vacation.

Tell me all the things you do to save money on a cruise!

Main Post:

I am cruising for the very first time on Symphony in the end of the year. I am not rich, so every tip is welcome... I want to creat a good balance between being loose with money because I am on vacation and not spending with unnecessary things.

Top Comment: Stick to free restaurants/buffets. Plenty of free entertainment and stuff to do. Walk around town or find cheap transportation in Port to free area beaches. I went to Bermuda. Shipboard arranged transportation to the beach or shopping area on the other end of the island was double the local cab/bus/van service price and the local was like a tour guide.
